Dear all!
There have been ten years running since this edition of Trondheim Jazz Orchestra played at Kibnebfestivalen and Molde International Jazz Festival for the first time. The album “We are?” came in 2005 at the record label Jazzaway. Now, in 2012, it is released again, at MNJ Records, with five “new” songs that never were a part of the original album. All from the original recording session.
Here follows text from the new cover:
This edition of the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra (TJO) first met in 2002. It was my first project as Artistic Director for the TJO. I picked musicians that I’d played with in differ- ent contexts, and that I have great respect for, both as ensemble musi- cians and soloists. Siri Gjære helped me finding lyrics, and she also wrote some new. Our first gig happend at Kibnebfestivalen in Lensvik, before traveling to the Molde International Jazz Festival 2002.
Two years later (28th and 29th of June in 2004) we went to Nidaros Studios in Trondheim to record the music. Everything went really smooth, and when I was putting the album together, I had 14 songs to choose from. Eventually I ended up with 9 songs that I thought be- longed to each other. The album was released on the label Jazzaway in 2005, and we had our release concert at Blå in Oslo November 16th.
Now, in 2012, (10 year anniversary for the project!) the album is released again. This time by the label MNJ Records, where all the other TJO albums are released. It felt right to do something new about it. So, the five tracks that never were a part of the 2005 release, you’ll find at the end of the album. Track number 9, from the original release, “Waltz for Balke», had to be removed from this album, in order to make it possible to include all the new songs. How- ever, it is still avail- able online.
The “We are?”- orchestra binds together many of my old threads, and has meant a lot for my subse- quent musical journey. Big thanks to Siri, Njål, Tor, John Pål, Ole Morten, Erlend, Øyvind, Nils Olav, Håvard and Kjetil for their generous contributions to this album!
